Taking on a home improvement project does not have to be an expensive affair. The first thing you need to do is to look at the stuff you already have around the house and find ways to use them to spruce up the look.
Take Advantage of Open Shelves
Put all your open shelves to good use. Figure out the ways to make these shelves become a beautiful part of the room’s décor. For instance, you can pull out your patterned plates or pretty pitchers and neatly arrange them on your open shelves to be admired.
Create a Gallery Wall
Turn one of the walls in your hallway, bedroom or living room, into a gallery and showcase your framed photos, artwork, and other things.
If you are using photos, consider using the same type of frames, but in different shapes and sizes. If you are feeling a little creative, use what makes you happy to create your gallery wall. However, you need to make it feel unified by sticking to a single theme. For instance, you can choose to display cooking tools like a Bundt pan, antique egg beaters, whisks or cookie cutters on your kitchen wall.
Arrange Unique Tablescapes
Use your china figurines, buffets or mantels with keepsakes to design mini-vignettes on your tables. There is no point in keeping all those exceptional items where no one ever sees them.
Group similar objects like colored bottles or mercury glasses together for that eye-catching appeal, and to create a unique tablescape. Use those interestingly shaped bottles to create a pretty ensemble for a mantelpiece or centerpiece. This move will incorporate your personal style and life experiences into your space to be admired by family and friends.
The best decorating does not always come from adding extra items, but from cutting down to only the things you love and need. Sometimes the real reason behind your slump comes from hording. You will be surprised at how much more you will fall in love with your space after taking the time to get rid of things that you do not need or like that much.
Apply a Fresh Coat
A fresh coat of paint can change the look of any piece for the better. Take out that box of old-fashioned knickknacks and apply a fresh coat of glossy white paint to turn them into a collection of fine china that will look astoundingly uniform and chic on your bookshelf. You can also paint your canvas like fabrics, thrift store pieces, plant stands, and end tables to give them that well-deserved oomph.
Throw pillows can be expensive. If you are getting weary of your old pillows, or they don’t complement the best bamboo sheets on your bed, consider getting pillow covers in the same size as your pillows. Your old pillows will act as an insert, and no one will ever know that your new orange pillow was once blue. If you are handy with a needle and thread, consider making your own pillow covers.
Sometimes, all your home needs is a little building up to go from acceptable to exceptional. You do not have to replace everything you have to start fresh with each design season. The truth is, a lot of your home basics just need a little perch up.
